Escritora is a literary theme for self-publishing authors, built on the Twenty Twelve framework. It gives writers a calm, book-like home for their work: warm ivory tones, a muted burgundy accent, and typography chosen for reading, with Fraunces for display and Literata for text, both self-hosted so nothing is loaded from outside services.
The theme is built around three kinds of content, all hand-coded rather than plugin-dependent. Books are presented with tilted covers, blurbs, genres and links to every shop that sells them, from Amazon and Apple Books to a Books2Read universal link or your own store. Book Excerpts let readers sample a chapter in a distraction-free reading room, complete with drop caps and previous-and-next navigation that leads gently towards a purchase. Reviews gather reader and press quotes, with optional star ratings and a link back to the original, so praise stays verifiable.
A self-composing front page ties it together: a hero, a spotlight on the newest release, a bookshelf that sizes itself to the number of titles, excerpt teasers, reader reviews and an about section. Every part hides itself until there is content to show, so the site looks finished from the first day. Authors make it their own through a Colours and Fonts panel, nineteen social profiles including Goodreads, BookBub and Substack, four footer widget areas, and a set of author-specific widgets.
Minimal plugins, self-hosted fonts, no third-party connections, and a design that stays out of the way so the writing comes first.
